Our Story
On my wife’s side, she likes us to visit tourist attractions every year to give our children exposure and help them understand their country, especially for their geography studies. With this plan from my wife and our UMOFA group, we were able to visit the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park, Rubondo National Park, Songea (Lake Nyasa), and Zanzibar Island. Combining my wife’s and my own interests, the idea to start a tour company came to me, and that’s when the name Burigi Tours and Safaris Limited came to mind, leading us to establish the company with that name.
About Us
Burigi Tours and Safaris is derived from the Burigi – Chato National Park, which was officially established in 2019 and opened by the late President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli. On that opening day, our director envisioned the idea of naming our company after the Burigi reserve to honor the President’s contribution in developing and expanding tourism in Tanzania. Therefore, the board of directors decided to establish Burigi Tours and Safaris Limited in 2019. Our company, founded by two directors, Osward Mbonde and Leocardia Sakila, is a family-run business. We established this company out of our passion for tourism, as we travel to various parts of Tanzania every year to explore the geography, visit wildlife reserves, and enjoy beach vacations in Zanzibar, especially during the month of December. Through our visits to different attractions and encounters with fellow tourists, we discovered the vast opportunities in the tourism sector, which inspired us to open this tourism company and enhance our family’s income.

Providing a detailed safety briefing to all trekkers prior to the trek.
Ensuring that all guides are Wilderness First Responder Certified (WFR), are licensed by Kilimanjaro National Park, have significant experience climbing Kilimanjaro and speak English fluently.
Carrying all necessary safety and precautionary equipment including pulse oximeters, emergency oxygen and first aid kits.
Organizing emergency evacuations if necessary.
All trekkers will have insurance to cover the payment of this if problem arise.
Providing clean, purified water to trekkers throughout the trek.
Porter Welfare
Burigi Tours and Safaris commits to:
Limiting porter loads to 20 kg per porter.
Paying porters a fair salary.
Ensuring porters have enough food for the duration of the trip.
Ensuring that porters have suitable shelter for the duration of the trip.
Providing porters with adequate clothing for the harsh mountain climate.
Treating porters with the respect they deserve.

It is important to note that Burigi Tours and Safaris is an independent company and has no affiliation or association with any other tourism company based in Tanzania.

Our Safari Vehicles
Burigi Tours and Safaris offers three high-quality vehicles for tourist transportation. All our vehicles are Toyota Land Cruisers with closed roofs, capable of accommodating up to seven passengers each.
Additionally, our safari vehicles feature hatched roofs to provide shade against the sun in the African wilderness. They have spacious seating that allows guests to sit comfortably and stretch out their legs. Each guest is guaranteed a window seat for optimal viewing. The vehicles are equipped with fridges, power charge sockets, and VHF radio calls for easy and efficient communication with our base office. Our drivers are highly skilled and each vehicle is custom-designed with an extra-large photographic roof hatch, additional dust proofing, comfortable seats with seat belts and canvas covers. We also provide first aid kits, binoculars, a selection of field guides, and complimentary bottles of mineral water for our guests. To ensure everyone’s satisfaction, our safari vehicles accommodate a maximum of six passengers, guaranteeing a window seat and access to the photographic roof hatch throughout the entire safari. Additionally, all our vehicles are equipped with a long-range radio system connected to our head office in Arusha, and are serviced after every safari.

Osward Egno Mbonde
- Managing Director
Osward Egno Mbonde, Managing Director and Founder of Burigi Tours and Safaris, holds a master’s degree in Finance from St. Augustine University of Tanzania. With a distinguished career history, he has worked at various esteemed institutions. Osward was attached at CITIBANK – Mwanza branch in 2003 and subsequently worked as a Cash Officer at EXIM bank from 2003 to 2004. From 2004 to 2012, he served as a Float Officer, Customer Consultant, and Business Banker at Stanbic Bank. From 2012 to 2016, Osward held the position of Corporate Relationship Manager at NIC bank. Since 2021, he has been the Managing Director of Burigi Tours and Safaris Limited. Alongside his professional accomplishments, Osward is known for his strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and problem-solving abilities.
Leocardia Katemi Sakila

Leocardia Katemi Sakila is the Director of Burigi Tours and Safaris. With a strong background in the finance industry, she brings valuable experience to her role. Prior to joining Burigi Tours and Safaris in 2021, Leocardia worked as a branch manager at Brac Tanzania from 2006 to 2012. She then served as a cash officer at Standard Chartered Bank from 2012 to 2018, and at Dcenti Financial Service Ltd from 2018 to the present. Her commitment and expertise make her a trusted leader at Burigi Tours and Safaris.
