Summary of 11 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari
Wildebeest Migration Safari is a display of natural wonders with over two million wildebeests, zebras, and antelope travelling over 450 miles across the plain to ensure their survival, unaware that there’s the danger presented by the stalking lions and cheetahs among other predators of the wildlife. Burigi Safaris will let you witness the huge crocodiles of the Mara River as they wait for the herbivorous to cross the swollen Mara river and enter into Masai Mara Game Reserve from Serengeti National Park. Itinerary Description By Day
DAY 1: ARUSHA TO LAKE NATRON.
Breakfast and drive to Lake Natron, off the beaten path, and away from the crowded places. The route takes you through the cultural home of the Maasai. On the way, you will pass Engaruka, an archaeological site of the Stone-age settlement, as well as the majestic Ondonyo Lengai mountain which is the only active volcanic mountain in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Natron will fascinate you with its colours, varying from pink, lime, green, and red due to the concentration of minerals and possibly the flamingoes! It is an almost surreal and breathtaking landscape that will leave you in awe! Arrive in the late afternoon for a brief check-in, followed by bird watching, flamingo, and sunset walk around the lake.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Natron Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 2: ANOTHER DAY TOUR IN LAKE NATRON.
Full day dedicated to the excursions by the Lake. These can be observing flamingoes and other birds, walking by the lake with a guide, exploring the waterfalls, hike to the hominid footprint, etc. There is plenty to do. In the evening enjoy the sundowner overlooking Lake Natron, the majestic Lengai and Gelai mountains, and watch the sun goes down behind the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Natron Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 3: LAKE NATRON TO NORTHERN SERENGETI KOGATENDE.
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti Park with a picnic lunch. Much of the route will be a game drive before arriving at the lodge in the late afternoon. Arrive for dinner and overnight at your tented camp.
Dinner and overnight at Acacia Migration Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 4: NORTHERN SERENGETI KOGATENDE.
After breakfast, we will proceed for a full day game drive viewing the great migration at the Mara area. Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area. The key feature is the Mara River and there is a great chance to see the herds cross the Mara River to the north on one day and back south a few days later. Please note that it can be very difficult to witness crossing and is sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to the river and only decide to cross a couple of days later. This area is a stunning region with kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation, and open plains, similar to Kenya’s Masai Mara.
Dinner and overnight at Acacia Migration Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 5: KOGATENDE TO CENTRAL SERENGETI.
Full day exploring the central part of the Serengeti. You can decide with your driver to go for a full day game drive or come back for lunch and afternoon another half-game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Central Serengeti Acacia Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 6: CENTRAL SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK.
After breakfast, we will take the packed lunch with us and proceed with the game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The migration can be seen on a long chain approximately 40 Km heading in the southwestern direction. Around 1230 and 1300 break for your lunch. After having our lunch, we will proceed with our game viewing following the move of the migrants on the southwest of the park. Approximately 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 gazelles, and 200,000 Zebras have been recorded sharing the short grass.
Dinner and overnight at Central Serengeti Acacia Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 7: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CRATER.
Morning game drive in Serengeti; afternoon drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
We have a final game drive in the Serengeti before heading back into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater where we spend the night.

DAY 8: GAME DRIVE TO NGORONGORO CRATER.
Today we visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5′ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard. We enjoy a game drive and picnic lunch in the crater, also known as the ’8th Wonder of the World.
Dinner and overnight at Lake Eyasi Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp: Full board.
DAY 9: BUSHMEN TOUR TO LAKE EYASI.
Start off early with your bushman guide to meet a group of resident Hadzabe people. Enjoy the Hadzabe Tour walking into the bush with the only hunter-gatherers remaining in the East African region. The Hadzabe speak a click-based language and move their encampments with the seasonal movements of the wildlife. Your guide is a member of the group and teaches you more about how they hunt, track wildlife, make fire, and even take honey from bee’s nests before introducing you to his people and explaining a little more about the customs and the way of life.
Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge: Full board.
