Burigi-Chato National Park is recently gazetted as a National combines 3 former Game Reserves into 1 unit that is now 4,707 sq. km making it the 4th largest National Park in Tanzania. Stretching from Lake Victoria in the East to the Rwandan boundary in the West, Burigi Chato is an enormous piece of the wild country encompassing freshwater lakes, long hills, rocky crags along escarpments, deeply set valleys lined with forest, open plains, swamps, rivers, flood plains and hundreds of square kilometres of medium and tall grass wooded savanna – mostly combretum and Terminal known as Miombo. How to get there The nearest local town is Chato which has an International Airport, and private charters are possible to an airstrip near the Nkonje Ranger Post beside Lake Burigi, or to the Birahamulo airstrip. Accessibility by road to the park is also possible as the park is connected to close towns including Chato and Karagwe Climate and SeasonsThis part of East Africa has two rainfall peaks, November / December and another in March / April, with dry weather from June to September. Itinerary Description By Day
DAY 1: We depart from Mwanza early in the morning at 7:00 am and drive to Chato town with our packed lunch boxes, the drives will take us through the tarmac road to reach Chato town.
From Mwanza to Chato is 238km about 4-5hrs drive.
We will check-in at Chota Beach Resort and there is an opportunity to explore the town of Chota or enjoy the boat cruise alongside the Lake Victoria with the prior arrangements of your Burigi Chato National Park safari.
Dinner and overnight at Chota Beach Resort: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 2: We start our game drive early in the morning through the Burigi National Park onwards to Lake Burigi to explore more abundance of different species of animals and birdlife.
We will take an armed ranger from the main gate called Magel General Kijuu for the game drives and the short walking safari with our packed lunches.
Dinner and overnight at Burigi public campsite: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 3: Today we start our full day game drives to Lake Ngoma and Lake Nyamalebe, there are lots to explore in the park, Burigi national Park is the only place in Tanzania you can see the abundance of wild animals alongside the Lake Victoria shore.
We may see the heads of African elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Hippos and Elands, also Leopards and Lions can be spotted during the game drives.
In the afternoon we drive back to the public campsite for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: Today we will take a short drive from Burigi Chato National Park via Biharamula town to Mwanza.
Our journey will take us in 4-5hrs 258km to reach Mwanza city.
