Summary of 6-Day Unforgettable Safari to Burigi Chato and Rubondo Island
Burigi-Chato National Park is recently gazetted as a National combines 3 former Game Reserves into 1 unit that is now 4,707 sq. Km, making it the 4th largest National Park in Tanzania. Stretching from Lake Victoria in the East to the Rwandan boundary in the West, Burigi Chato is an enormous piece of the wild country, encompassing fresh water lakes, long hills, rocky crags along escarpments, deeply set valleys lined with forest, open plains, swamps, rivers, flood plains and hundreds of square kilometres of medium and tall grass wooded savanna – mostly combretum and Terminal known as Miombo. Rubondo Island was gazetted officially as National Park in 1977. It is an important breeding ground for both migratory bird and fish species especially Tilapia and Nile perch as for a long time it stood to be the only area in the waters of Lake Victoria which was well protected and preserved. Itinerary Description By Day
DAY 1: Mwanza to Biharamulo
We depart from Mwanza early in the morning at 7:00 am and drive to Biharamulo with our packed lunch boxes, the drive will take us through the tarmac road to reach Biharamulo.
From Mwanza to Biharamulo is 258km about 4-5hrs drive.
Today we will explore the town of Biharamulo or stay at the lodge for better preparations for your safari.
Dinner and overnight at Biharamulo Giraffe Lodge: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 2: Lake Burigi Tour
We start our game drive early in the morning through the Lake Burigi area to explore more abundance of different species of animals and birds.
We will spend our whole day inside the park for game drives and a short walking safari with an armed ranger for the protection of the aggressive animals and our safety.
In the late evening, we make a short journey from the park to Biharamulo town for an overnight stay.
Dinner and overnight at Biharamulo Giraffe Lodge: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 3: Full-day game drive
Full-day game drives to Lake Ngoma and Lake Nyamalebe, today we will depart from our lodge and head to the national park for a full day game drives with our packed lunch boxes and an armed ranger.
We may see the heads of African elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Hippos and Elands it is possible to spot the Leopards in this park.
In the afternoon we drive from the park to Chato town for dinner and overnight with prior arrangements to Rubondo Island National Park.
Dinner and overnight at Chato Beach Resort: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 4: Chato Beach Resort to Rubondo National Park
Today we will take a short drive from Chato Beach Resort to Rubondo’s main gate for the necessary formalities at Rubondo National Park. We start the boat ride to Rubondo National Park with the chance to enjoy the boat cruise before entering the park, we may see the great Gorillas and other primate families in the Park.
Dinner and overnight at Rubondo Island Tented Camp: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 5: Full-day walking safari in the Rubondo Island National Park
We have another full-day walking safari in the Rubondo Island National Park, we will take our lunch boxes and explore the park on foot to discover more the beauty of Island and to watch the great families of mountain Gorillas inside the park.
Also, we may add more interest to do the boat cruise to enjoy the freshwater of Lake Victoria and to see the head of African Elephants alongside the Lakeshore.
Dinner and overnight at Rubondo Island Tented Camp: Bed, Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch.
DAY 6: Travel back to Mwanza
After morning breakfast we will travel back to Rubondo main gate to meet our 4×4 safari vehicles and drivers to take us back to Mwanza.
